The sad news that the GOAT (Greatest of All Time), Pele has passed away reached us all this week.
We all remember his brilliance on the pitch, his determination to become the GOAT despite his humble beginnings, and the man he was off the pitch, becoming one of the greatest ambassadors for sport that we will ever have.
He first won the World Cup at the age of 17, scoring twice in the final, and followed this up with another two World Cup wins during his incredible career. His goal per game ratio wasn’t far away from a goal per game.
The argument of who is the GOAT rumbles on with Ronaldo R9, Cristiano Ronaldo, Messi, Maradona and George Best amongst those thrown into the hat, however we have to remember Pele played with a heavy leather ball, didn’t have nutritionists, doctors and technology to help him develop, and the game was far more physical then too. With that in mind I think comparisons are difficult to make, but he was for sure the best player of his generation, and one of the best players of all time.
As we remember Pele for being an incredible player, person and ambassador, we leave you with some wise words he once spoke …. something that will help us all if we keep them in mind as we travel through life.
